Autumn Term 2
This week, we have had so much fun exploring our new school building! It has been so lovely to see the children being curious about their new learning environments, especially their beautiful outside space. The Phonic Fairy must have received our letters, as she sent us the new sounds ck, e, u and r for our Reception children. We have been balancing across the obstacle course with eggs on a spoon, making our own underpants and writing lots of marks. The children are enjoying practising their sparkle marks and writing their names. In Year 1, we have been learning an autumn poem. The children have made up actions, written a text map and have been performing the poem as a class. In Maths, we have been ordering numbers and using ordinal numbers to describe their position.
This week we have been continuing to explore our fabulous outside area, field and forest school. We have been building collaboratively and getting messy in the mud kitchen! In Year 1, we have been using a number line to subtract numbers and the children have been able to demonstrate their careful counting. We have also planned and written our own letters to Father Christmas!
This week, the Reception children have been busy learning the new sounds ss, j, v and w. Every day we revisit the sounds that they have learnt so far and the children are beginning to use their ‘sound’ knowledge to spell short words. In Year 1, we have continued learning about the part whole model and are now writing our own addition number sentences to represent our practical Maths. We have also written our own firework poems which the children are very excited to perform. We have all enjoyed retelling the story of Rama and Sita using our puppets!
